Ok. I’m thinking of making a test run kickstarter. I’d like to kickstart a huge project, but I’m really not sure how much work it involves with all the mailing things out and keeping track and whatnot, and if I’d be up for all that activity. I suppose if I made it big enough I could hire people to do the mailing out for me?

There’s so many things I’d like to kickstart: A gallery show of my photographs printed as large metallic prints? A special eyepatch with optional infrared photographic capabilities with matching shutter button and controls bracelet? The awesome adjustable kneelable wheelchair-tricycle-bicycle I’ve been dreaming of? Or special weight training gloves to help me grip the handles of workout machines so I (and people with EDS and similar conditions) can exercise without wrecking my hands? Could I kickstart LASIK for my good eye so I can use my eyepatch properly… Or kickstart for a huge monitor and computer so I could see what I’m doing properly? (probably not)

At 2:55, you can see me nervously interview one of the most significant erotic figures in my preadolescent life. It might seem frivolous, but the degree of admiration and worship I had for this woman when I was 9-10 was profound. I so desperately wanted to be a boy all through my elementary years, and she so struck a chord with my strange affinity for the sexually inbetween.

(that’s me!)

Anyway, I’m mentioning all of this because It’s the weekend for the mad extravaganza of the biannual(?) Chiller Theatre Expo! Seriously, look at this year’s guest list: LINK! It’s amazing.

The video above is from when I last attended, which was spring of 2011. Yeah, my name is spelled wrong, and no, I didn’t get any credit for my photographs which were used throughout.

A word to the wise, folks: No matter how causal the gig, if you aren’t paying people for their assistance / creativity / content, the very LEAST you can do is to attribute proper credit to those involved.

EDITED TO ADD:

The reason I look so disheveled is that the fellow who brought me there didn’t secure us a place to sleep at the hotel, but while hanging out with Tony Clifton he got too drunk to drive us home, so we ended up sleeping in his car in the parking lot the night before. When we woke up we found KITT parked next to us.

I am having some thinky issues. I find myself becoming more and more tired of photography, and have more and more of a drive to return to physical art; drawing, painting, building, etc. However, the same issues that originally drove me to photography in the first place still remain: seeing double, no depth perception, and a right hand that is growing weak, limp and hard to control but cramps when I use it to much. Those issues don’t just remain, they are exponentially growing worse - not to mention the pain the goes along with it and the subsequent lack of concentration or ability to just think STRAIGHT and not feel muddled and lost.

I’ve over a year of unsorted photographs, but photography doesn’t seem interesting to me these days. I feel it’s become more of a compulsion than an artistic expression. I tire of the computer generated. I want charcoal smudges on my face, ink spots on my fingers, and the smell of turpentine on my clothes.

But drawing and painting terrifies me. It makes me break into tears almost every time I try. It’s quite cruel, life in this body, in this mind.

This past week I’d seen my two fanciest doctors. It’s rather like I’m at an exclusive private school for sick people that has a scholarship program for the poor kids who live on the wrong side of the tracks. You might get a foot in the door if you’ve worked hard enough to get Medicare, but you still have to pass the entrance exam and audition with the flying colors of having a rare and interesting enough health issue to be accepted into the fold. I’m “lucky” enough to be very very “interesting” in this way.

This woman was glorious.

I’d been employed as the personal photographer of performance artist Coralee Lynn Rose and as such I’d been sent to Tampa to document her performance at the annual Nude Night art expo. Coralee would sit motionless and nearly naked (save for opera gloves, a hood over her head, panties, and stockings/boots,) on a small platform beside an empty chair. Passersby were invited to take a seat, at which point Coralee would creak to life, slowly leaning forward, grabbing a black-foil heart shaped chocolate and handing it to each guest.

The crowd was interesting. The young people, presumably those who’d grown up in the area and never left, were more often a bit crass and a bit pervy. However, there was a large population of older people who attended. These retirees were from everywhere, and usually quite cultured and intellectual.

It was the second night of the event, and I hovered near, taking photographs of people as they interacted with Coralee’s piece. I noticed three couples enter the venue together; in their early to mid sixties, I’d estimate, and all quite fit. Two of the ladies wore short hemmed dresses and heels, showing off some fabulous legs; the third wore a stretchy 70’s style halter-top one piece that flared out to wide flowing pant legs, very complimentary to her hairstyle of a near-shaved head. Each of these ladies walked along side their men, smiling and chatting, clearly enjoying the scantily clad costumed performers and artwork covering the walls.

I ended up engrossed in conversation with a gentleman I’d met earlier, and I missed the initial approach of these three couples to Coralee’s mannequin-still self. Mid-sentence, I turned and saw the sight photographed above: the shaved-head woman who had clearly not been wearing a bra had slung her top down around her waist to pose equally bare-chested and still beside Coralee. Her friends were all squealing with delight and taking pictures, while her fellow was looking at her adoringly and oozing with compliments and gratitude. “Oh! Oh, thank you. Oh, you’re wonderful. Ah! Thank you!” he said as he pressed his hand against his chest.

I snapped a few photographs before the moment was lost and as they walked away, I exclaimed loudly: “You’ve got quite a fabulous woman there!” to which her fellow turned to me and said, beaming “Oh, I know it!”

I watched as they disappeared into the crowd, arms casually around each other, when he raised one hand to gently rub her half-inch long head-fuzz with affection before kissing her gently on the temple.

I want to be this woman in thirty years.

Egad, that performer! It was really quite as though she’d sprung directly from my sexual imagination in the “lanky female fantasy alien” department. Also found in that department is Borg Queen as played by Alice Krige (and ONLY Alice Krige), as well as Tilda Swinton as Gabriel.
